Gibson was quite a man, fighting pain through that very long at-bat. He must have attended the Walter Brennan school of base-running before the game.
I gave up baseball in 1977 when the Red Sox lost so ignominiously. I had even bought an awesome Sony color TV to follow the Red Sox that season. Bah.
