Yep. You nailed it.
While I spent a lot of time when I was young studying the composition of the writings that formed the KJV and the RSV Bibles (and those texts thrown out or excluded), I really just keep a copy of the Jefferson Bible around. Revelations is not in it.
Of course, I went to UVa and got pickled in Mr. Jefferson’s way of thinking about things.
From Wikipedia:
“Also referring to the 1804 version, Jefferson wrote, “A more beautiful or precious morsel of ethics I have never seen; it is a document in proof that I am a real Christian, that is to say, a disciple of the doctrines of Jesus.”[38]
Jefferson’s claim to be a Christian was made in response to those who accused him of being otherwise, due to his unorthodox view of the Bible and conception of Christ. Recognizing his rather unusual views, Jefferson stated in a letter (1819) to Ezra Stiles Ely, “You say you are a Calvinist. I am not. I am of a sect by myself, as far as I know.”[40]”

Jefferson considered himself to be a real Christian because he followed the ethics of Jesus?
I guess I missed the part where Jesus said it was ok to sctupp your wife’s teenage half sister.
Jesus's own words about Himself trump Jefferson.
