"Adorable Woodland Creature"

Not around here. One of these "adorable creatures" chased our poor little doggy back to the patio a couple days ago.

So? If you go on boobtoob you can see a deer walking up to a hunter who is sighting in a rifle. The deer remains unfazed.

See it here.

I have talked to a bird with my fiddle. Conversation did not get very far, though.

We have a lot of “urban” deer around here. They are almost all partially tame from receiving handouts. Most of them do not have much fear of people. They are very cute, but they are constantly eating expensive plants and flowers.

I WAS going to post that Helen Thomas pic, but it’s Friday, and almost lunch, so I wouldn’t do that to you.

I’ve seen videos of this practice. People take musical instruments to pastures, woods or fields, start playing, and the elephants, cows, deer, etc., come to listen.

According to a relative of mine it works with wild reptiles too. Sit on the porch, play a violin, and they will come and check you out.

A doe and two fawns are now wandering the east side of Atlanta. Pictures were posted on Nextdoor.

“There are several scientific studies that suggest certain animals enjoy listening to music”

When I sit down to play piano, one of our cats runs into the room, sits by the piano, and stays until I’m finished. (The other cats don’t care.)

Deer acclimate to humans pretty well.....I had one which wanted a ride in my car. Came right through the windshield!

I was attacked by a deer once. I was 15. He just charged me and pinned me to a wall. His nose was bleeding, there was something wrong with him.

I grabbed his antlers and tried to twist him off me, damn, he was stronger than I expected.

He finally just trotted away. No idea what happened to him.

I attempted bassoon one time. Whever I played it, the dog looked at me like this:

I actually got a really good sound, but having 10 keys for each thumb was too wierd, so I abandoned it.

Besides, all double reed players are insane.

Deer are very curious. So something strange but pleasant to the ear would likely compel them to come check it out.

Not true. I just tried playing an apple and it sounded nothing like the harp.

A saxophone will draw them, too.

Fear will actually drive deer to close proximity to humans. My two brothers and myself were on a gas well site on the back of my property. We were taking a break from walking by sitting on a well pipe when we heard a cougar squall and a big rustle just inside the wood line from us. We readied our guns in that direction, but instead of a big cat leaping out of the woods, four deer came running out and came right up to us, turned around, and stared intently at the opening in the woods. The deer were so close to use you could reach out and touch them. We were armed, and this was a section of woods that gets deer hunted every season. After a few minutes, the deer simply trotted off across the well site. Evidently, they were more afraid of what was in the woods than they were of us.

Deer are dangerous. Especially during the rut. They have killed a few people.
