Bear in mind, the Mouse, like CNN and the other major content providers, makes a fortune just for showing up by way of carriage fees. It’s a billion dollars a year in income to CNN without selling ad #1.

It’s hard to find the totals but here’s a ballpark from 2017 article:

“Assuming Disney already increases the prices it charges cable and satellite companies for ESPN by 5% a year, bumping that up to 6% as it signs new deals would boost fee revenue by 4% a year to $12.56 billion from 2016 to 2022, “

So a cool $12B in revenue just for being on the cable/satellite. Sure they have some fixed costs, people to run the programs and engineers to keep the satellite uplinks working but it’s damn near free money.

This is why they’re so nervous about cord-cutters and hate the idea of Trump controlling their gravy train, which is a nice cushion against other business downturns like they’re seeing now.

Suppose they’d let Pocohantas win.
