I’m making masks for my wife and myself out of cheesecloth with a duct tape border and yarn ear loops. We can breathe just fine through them.
Still rather not wear any mask, though. We’ve had some workers at the new place in the last few days, and we tell them as soon as they arrive that if they prefer not to wear masks, that’s fine with us. Without exception, the masks get removed.
For a mask I thought about making one, or some, out of even-weave cross-stitch Aida cloth. It’s full of holes. But it’s too expensive to waste on a godforsaken mask.
I think the holes in cheesecloth are too big, although cheesecloth probably is absorbent enough to catch damp particles. I make masks out of cotton material, and I put pockets for filters in the masks. I get filters by cutting open vacuum cleaner bags; the inner lining of the bag is a filter. I have been trying several styles of mask.
