I’m making masks for my wife and myself out of cheesecloth with a duct tape border and yarn ear loops. We can breathe just fine through them.

I think the holes in cheesecloth are too big, although cheesecloth probably is absorbent enough to catch damp particles. I make masks out of cotton material, and I put pockets for filters in the masks. I get filters by cutting open vacuum cleaner bags; the inner lining of the bag is a filter. I have been trying several styles of mask.

I’m not the tiniest bit concerned about whether my masks will catch anything at all. I want to be able to breathe during those times when I am forced to wear a mask. Cheesecloth is the best and cheapest material that I’ve found.
