FYI, all, I’m not taking this one to PM because any tips given here may help another FreeQ. Current events seem as if those of us who have practiced some prepping may have good tips for getting through the next months. (Hopefully not years)
As for meat and even beef Greeneyes we found 2 local locker plants who sell some unclaimed or unwanted meat at good discounts. Since we are in the midst of ranch and hunting lands we get beef and venison usually. The beef is typically ground beef, chili meat, stew chunks or less tender roasts.
When I time this correctly (not this time) I get the ground, chili and stew chunks from the beef of one particular neighbor who raises grass fed with no antibiotics/hormones etc. It’s very high quality, low fat. They are well-off enough that he chooses to only pick up the steaks and a bit of good roast.
The butchers know the sources of their products and have always been honest about “whether we really want that or not.”
The venison becomes available in hunting season when many hunters will drop off their game then never claim it. With those we only pay processing cost. Don’t know if we will get any from hunting season this year or not, but we do have deer and wild turkey on our little bit of acreage.
Question for you or anyone with ideas. My husband eats breakfast cereal daily. Cheerios and corn flakes. This cereal has been my nemesis as long term storage. It takes a lot of space and gets stale. I have various methods of sealed storage for other cereals/grains. But altho he will eat those he wants the processed stuff if he can get it. The vacuum sealer crushes it in packs. I can vacuum seal quart jars but for him it would take a huge quantity. He goes through 3-4 boxes of cereal/week. He may have have to suck it up if price of cereal skyrockets.
