I think we have a front row seat to see how civilizations fall after they have risen.
Currently, if they win, we die.
If we win, they simply walk away unharmed.
I used to give a lecture to my Intro to Econ class saying I could end poverty overnight. They begged to know how. At that time (a long time ago!) the poverty level was $9600 for a family of 4. So, I said that all you have to do is get everyone who makes $9600 or less, line them up, and shoot them. Their eyes would go as big as pie plates with the expected “You can’t do that!” retorts. Wild examples are effective teaching tools!
After the dust settled, I asked them: “How long will it take before the person making $9601 starts bitching that they are the poorest person in the land?” From there we got into an interesting discussion of income distribution and the effect is has on incentives, productivity, and general standards of living.
Alas, today’s Snowflakes seem incapable of a rational discussion.
We (conservatives) have always maintained a laissez-faire attitude toward these cultural-political battles, seemingly content to allow the left some wins, if the core of our daily lives are not demonstrably affected. If we can we raise a family, go to work, buy some things, enjoy some pastime, go to church, we figure that compromising with the left is the Christian thing to do. One of Saul Alinsky’s “rules” was to use “our book of rules” against us.
