Rep. Karen Bass, D-Calif., on Saturday told President Trump to say nothing about the passing of civil rights icon John Lewis, who died late Friday of pancreatic cancer.
Trump issued a proclamation shortly after 11 a.m. to order all U.S. flags be flown at half-staff at the White House, all public buildings and grounds, all military posts and embassies for the remainder of Saturday as a mark of respect for the memory and longstanding public service of Lewis.
But Bass said Trump shouldnt say anything about the death of the Democratic congressman from Georgia. Trump has a history of divisive rhetoric, particularly on race relations, but Bass offered no explanation other than to say let us mourn in peace.
.@realDonaldTrump while the nation mourns the passing of a national hero, please say nothing. Please dont comment on the life of Congressman Lewis, she tweeted. Your press secretary released a statement, leave it at that.

Is John Lewis the one who thought that islands could tip over? Or do I have him confused with someone else?
“Good riddance to bad rubbish” comes to mind.
Well, the late Ailes’ declaration of a “course correction” at Fox News dates back eight years. The poison has had quite a while to work through the system; Trump went after them legitimately over that problem of theirs.
Out of the newer conservative news stations, I much prefer OANN, even over Newsmax TV which itself has a tendency to favor the establishment.
Behold the requisite virtue-signaling media slobberfest over which network can heap the gooiest praise on the late John Lewis. I’m confident that out of respect, the Bolshevik Lynch Mob will temporarily suspend its destruction of America in recognition of his 1960’s civil rights contributions.
Of course, there’s no mention that Georgia’s John Lewis, “a lion” and “a towering figure of the civil rights era” was perennially listed among the Top 10 most corrupt members of Congress -— right up there with Charlie Rangel and Maxine Waters. Now, he’s being canonized to sainthood.
The funeral will be another #BidenRally sh*t show. Guaranteed.
Trump has a history of divisive rhetoric, particularly on race relations,
Odd, I must have missed that, isn’t it good we have the
press to tell us what we are hearing...
I apologize to all for the multiple posts but my equipment kept indicating that the post was not being sent.
Sorry.
That was Hank Johnson, about Guam.
‘Trump has a history of divisive rhetoric, particularly on race relations,’
Fox news is for the most part more propaganda garbage, just dressed up as the “conservative alternative”. I guess Tucker gets good ratings so they’re letting him stay on for now.
I am so sick of hearing that damnable lie about Trump’s “history of divisive rhetoric on race relations”. I’d like to see one actual example cited.
Flags at half staff for this race-baiting fool?
Freedom of speech... Liberals hate it.
Exactly
Big mouth Bass.
Since when do they need substantiation? They're whole entire party lives by accusation.
So, DJT is not permitted to say some kind words about a long-serving US Congressman or offer condolences to his family on behalf of the Nation?
Why does she (Bass) have to be so divisive? These Congress people like Bass and Mad Max (adjoining district) are the real problem.
They are not capable of showing any respect to John Lewis’ family after his death or to President Trump, who would only want to express some comforting words to the family. With her ridiculous request, Rep. Bass sows racial division in this country!
No, John Lewis is the one who taught Juicy Smollet and Bubba Wallace everything they know about race hoaxes. (Lewis falsely claimed that a white guy spit on him at the Tea Party anti-Obamacare rally a few years back.)
OK karen lololol
