I disliked both of those myself. Looking back, a lot of Disney stuff was creepy to me even as a kid. I have cut Walt a lot of slack over the years, but not too much any more because I don't think he could have been totally clueless about his minions at the "Magic Kingdom."

Even the old Disney was pretty weird. There was a lot of stuff that was from European paganism in his movies.

Bambi was one of the early movies that preached the "man is evil, nature is wonderful" mantra. Notice the owl, who is a natural predator of rabbits, was friends with Thumper. There were no natural predators in Bambi.

Pollyanna opened with a naked ten year old boy swinging into a creek.

Lots of references to sexualized underaged girls in Peter Pan, particularly the mermaid lagoon.

There were no natural predators in Bambi.

The original book was written by an Austrian author whose books Hitler later banned, and translated into English by none other than Whittaker Chambers (during his Communist spy period). Disney & Co. bowdlerized it pretty liberally, and it became quite a work of agitprop from that point.

Main characters were always orphaned weren’t they?
