Usually, or at least separated from their parents. Snow White, Cinderella, Pollyanna, Bambi, Pinocchio, Sleeping Beauty, and on. Some of this is for the purpose of story telling. For a kid to have an adventure, they have to be separated from their protectors.

There were some that were full family units, like Swiss Family Robinson.

I can't watch a lot of things now that I used to enjoy.

Just about every Hollywood star had to join the club to get publicity.
