Racists!
Black Paint Matters
Someone will call this RACIST. Bet on it.
White Supremacist Paints!
Now they need some super-black to be heat absorbent for winter use. And add a switch to convert between the two.
Promising, but in cities, very much dependent on the switch to electric vehicles as air pollution illuminates the benefits in short order.
Then theres the whole solar glare thing. Tall building design is just coming to terms with this.
solar cooling load via glass several times the load thru walls...just sayin’
“superwhite paints!” Oooo, racist paint!
For those who REALLY have to have the Black Face!
I wonder how Barite compares to titanium dioxide for price and stability.
Titanium Dioxide is one of the most expensive components in many formulas like paint and sealants. I believe it also has some effect on UV resistance and longevity.
I can’t stand most of the greenie stuff done in homebuilding, but it it makes economic sense without too much aesthetic destruction, go for it.
You can safely dismiss any article whose headline proclaims cost savings only to find the article contains no hard numbers.
And super racists at that. At least it isn’t super master white paint. 8>)
For private homes, a better solution is replace the roof with a new one that has more vents on the roof and better insulation qualities (e.g., California Title 24 regulations). The new roof on my house has cut the electric usage from 1005 kWh for June 2019 to 930 kWh for June 2020. Even with the current heat wave, my house now shuts down the air conditioner by 11 pm, instead of shutting down at 3-4 am!
Two years ago, I reroofed and added vented soffits. I use whirly gig turbine vents instead of a ridge vent (upon the advice of a building scientist friend of mine)
Last November, we added 12” of cellulose insulation to the ceiling. I also air sealed with 2 component spray foam everywhere I could reach without removing the existing insulation.
I haven’t compared all winter bills yet, but the first month was a 30% savings.
Air sealing makes a tremendous difference by completely encapsulating the walls and preventing small amounts of air infiltration from multiple locations.
ok folks,
sounds good till you think about it. there is reflective heat and radiating heat. This might stop one but causa problems for the other.
It is more complex that just white paint
