Yoko Ono, 87, ailing and using wheelchair, is 'slowing down,' insiders say

Three years ago, when the National Music Publishers’ Association presented Yoko Ono with their Centennial Song Award, Sean Lennon pushed his mother onto the stage at Cipriani 42nd Street in a wheelchair — shocking some who didn’t realize the formidable avant-garde artist was incapacitated.

But in her signature shades, black leather jacket and white Panama hat, the widow of John Lennon didn’t seem to miss a beat when she began a short acceptance speech by addressing the elephant in the room.

“Thank you, thank you, thank you,” she said, clutching the award in one hand and a microphone in the other as Sean whispered to her about what was going on. “I’ve learned so much from having this illness. I’m thankful I went through that.”

While it’s not clear what “illness” she was referring to, Ono, now 87, is still ailing, requires round-the-clock care and rarely leaves her sprawling apartment in The Dakota, a source close to her staff told The Post. In photos taken at rare public appearances — including a women’s march in Columbus Circle last year and at a commemoration of John in Liverpool in May 2018 — Ono is confined to a wheelchair, or walks with great difficulty using a cane, often leaning on a caregiver or Sean for support.

She has also been selling off some real-estate assets in recent years

I do feel bad for George Harrison. He was the only musician in the group. Poor bastard.

Sean Ono Lennon is often enjoyable on Twitter. Some recent examples:
“I am simply offended by the idea of ANY flesh and blood actor playing the role of a cartoon character. Cartoons should be played by cartoons people! We can do better!”
“The unending end of the world is getting tiresome...”
“Do they make a ‘safe space’ from the ‘woke mob’?”
“I think I just invented the word: Unintelligentsia. You can thank me later.”
“Those who want to see everything through a lens of race and class, judging individuals based on immutable characteristics, pretend to be fighting the very thing they are enacting. And none of us wish to speak up because we have been bullied into silence. Anyway how was your day?”
“I remember reading about the Red Army burning things because they were from the imperialist past. Not sure it was a net win for society.”
in reply to the NY Times: “This is the end for you guys. Firing someone for allowing different opinions in your paper means you are no longer a real news paper. It’s been fun. You had a good run. The best in fact. R.I.P.”
“You may say there have been violent revolutions that won, and I say ultimately they lost. The Bolsheviks, Mao, Castro, the reign of terror were all ultimately unnecessarily violent and immoral.”
“I don’t think anyone, least of all the architects of the modern internet, realized to what extent the unexpected consequences social media and the web would arguably ruin the world.”

Geez, I had Yono O-No! in the “forgotten but not gone” category.

Whether you heard that great line or created it yourself, I will enjoy stealing it to use in the future. Thanks for the laugh. Could have worked for Dukakis a couple of days ago, too. And "Neil Young Attacks Trump Again."

Maybe 10 years ago I saw a car in traffic ahead of me with the bumper sticker: I STILL HAVE A GRUDGE AGAINST YOKO.

A non-joke that John and Yoko laughed over was when a reporter asked if the two did any physical exercise regimen. "We're both heroin addicts. That's physical exercise." Yoko said."

Gruesome and sad.

Maybe not fully right, but he matured from his early political stances and was embarrassed by the song imagine.

No more screeching this is good.

You should hear the wheels on the cart she is riding. They noise they make is as annoying as the noise she makes.

John Lennon would have been 80 this year. Now that I can’t imagine.

John became a Christian shortly before he was killed, per his diaries. Despite appearances and some misguided lyrics, he seems to always have had an interest in Christianity and it seems to have scared him, because he ran away from it until the end. Incidentally, the line about The Beatles being more popular than Jesus was said by John with astonishment. He was not bragging.

You sure his twitter is his real account? I thought he was a lefty considering his mother is one.

Correct. The reaction to that comment was an early example of "outrage mob" hysteria. They were burning Beatles records for weeks. If I recall correctly, John did not bend a knee to it. But I could be wrong.

Anyway, these dumb kids. Those vintage Beatles albums would have been worth big money today.

As long as she’s not singing anymore. Last time I heard her I thought my smoke alarm had gone off.
