Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz has asked President Trump for a federal disaster declaration in his state due to extensive fire damage and other destruction in the unrest that followed George Floyds death in Minneapolis police custody on Memorial Day.
We need to come together to ensure Minnesotans who were victims of this destruction have access to critical infrastructure they need so they can go to the grocery store, pick up their medication, and live their lives, Walz said in a statement Thursday. Together, we will rebuild.
He also appealed to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for financial assistance to help cover the cost of debris removal, emergency measures and damage to public buildings and equipment.
Were asking our federal partners to step up and help our communities recover, he said.
Walzs office estimates the cost of the damage to more than 1,500 businesses in Minneapolis and St. Paul at over $500 million.

Get the mobs to pitch in.
IOW, NO.
[Sticky, tho...DJT needs MN...refusal could be played very badly...]
Who knew.....rioting like elections has consequences.
You can’t fool us! Peaceful Demonstrations don’t cause damage.
You gotta getup pretty early in the morning to fool us!
Typical DemonRat politician, looking for others to pay for their incompetence.
Not a GD penny.
The Dem gov wants FEMA money to Rebuild? This was not a natural disaster like a flood, hurricane, or tornado. This was a manmade disaster enabled by the Dems.
Figgadaboudit Timmy, boy. It was YOUR leaders who decided to abandon your police station and let the city burn. Don’t ask US taxpayers to pay for it now, a month later.
Go tax the devil out of your factories and pay for your own mess
Oh no, no, no. You got what you asked for!
Correct headline: “Minnesota Gov. Walz asks Trump for disaster declaration after HE FAILS TO ACT AND George Floyd riots trigger over $500M in damages.”
My response would be: “Gov. Walz is correct, he IS a disaster, just like Governors Cuomo, Wolf and Whitmer.”
I would tell him that emergency funds will be made available, for funding law enforcement.
Is it really “damage”, or perhaps it is “art”?
Precisely.
Count me as one of the No voters, MN Governor. You allowed this to happen. You own it, not the American taxpayers.
For later.

Since correct usage of the Minneapolis Police/National Guard on Day One would have reduced that damage amount to a few hundred thousand dollars, I would say the answer is a big, fat NO.
Why should I pay for something that state government failed to do. NO WAY WILL I PAY...we should riot and protest...oh but wait...I have to actually...WORK.
Trump offered to send in the military to put down the riots if the governor could not. The governor refused the help then so he can pound sand today.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.................NO !!
