I’m led to understand that the Battle of New Orleans was a pivotal moment in World History but I tend to forget it happened during the War of 1812.

The battle took place 18 days after the signing of the Treaty of Ghent, which formally ended the War of 1812 on December 24 1814, as news of the agreement had not yet reached the United States from Europe.

News traveled slow in those days. A lot of people don’t realize this either.
