These riots to me are a double edged sword. I understand that POTUS is respecting state's rights, showcasing weak response from DemocRAT run areas, and avoiding the trap of creating an opportunity for another “kent state” propaganda lollapoloosa.

Slight slide, and I'll probably have to dig a bit, but the Ohio National Guard was involved in the Kent State situation, and as far as I know, was under the direction of Governor Rhodes.

Which didn't matter to the left at the time...

"Tin Soldiers and Nixon's coming,
We're finally on our own.
This summer I hear the drumming,
Four dead in Ohio"

Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young said it was Nixon's fault and I bet that plenty of young, impressionable people were convinced.

What that did was turn Vietnam into “Nixon’s War”, as if LBJ had nothing to do with it.

You know that illustrates the point I had in my mind. POTUS is always a scapegoat for whatever happens. Thanks-it helped to clarify my thinking.

“Slight slide, and I’ll probably have to dig a bit, but the Ohio National Guard was involved in the Kent State situation, and as far as I know, was under the direction of Governor Rhodes.”

I don’t know if it’s a slight slide, I just read the Wiki article on this and so much of it is similar to what is happening now. Anti police riots (I mean protests), fires.

From Wiki...

“During the 1966 Homecoming Parade, protesters walked dressed in military paraphernalia with gas masks.”

Today, they dress all in black with their faces covered.

“On April 10, 1970, Jerry Rubin, a leader of the Youth International Party (also known as the Yippies), spoke on campus. In remarks reported locally, he said: “The first part of the Yippie program is to kill your parents. They are the first oppressors.” Two weeks after that, Bill Arthrell, an SDS member and former student, distributed flyers to an event in which he said he was going to napalm a dog. The event turned out to be an anti-napalm teach-in.[12]”

Jerry Rubin?? Kill your parents? And Bill Arthrell became what we despise most.. a liberal history teacher.

“Trouble exploded in town around midnight, when people left a bar and began throwing beer bottles at police cars and breaking windows in downtown storefronts”

Sounds familiar. Violent rioteers.

” A few members of the crowd began to throw beer bottles at the police, and then started yelling obscenities at them. “

Same today!

This is about when the mayor contacted the governor and he sent in the ONG, who I think came the next night?

But it is a repeat of what’s happening today. And I think many of the agitators were probably from outside the school.

I personally think, from what I’ve read, the ONG felt their lives were threatened. There were reports that maybe the crowd shot first so they fired back?

Do I think the bayonets a bit much? Perhaps.. but different times.

Remember these are the people who spit on, called names like baby killers, psychos, given the middle finger and I’m sure did worse to our vets coming back from a rotten war that we lost because our military was being micromanaged by LBJ and tied the military’s hands . Our vets were treated HORRIBLY by these so called protesters.

Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong.. I was young when this happened and somewhat sheltered, except for when my dad took us to Sunday dinner at the Men’s Colony where he worked. (”Dad, are we safe?” “Oh yeah, he’s a murderer, not a rapist.” “Oh, okay” “But don’t talk to them.” “Ok.” Gets a stomach ache lol)
