I knew Russia and China had been increasing their stockpiles of gold for quite a while. Actually many other countries have been. Gold has gone up quite a bit over the last year, but silver not so much.
I had not seen the prior CV stockpiling article on Russia though. China’s currency was supposed to be in the basket of currencies (derp plan) for the SDR to replace the dollar as the world’s reserve currency, but they actually needed to have more gold to meet the requirements to be “in” the club.
The China was threatening to set up it’s own gold backed currency international settlement system etc. so TPTB wanted to keep them in the club.
