A local man is now refusing to accept any mail from this point on in order to protest the racist nature of the USPS. Robert E Lee says all of his mail comes addressed to a known racist and the USPS should refuse to deliver it. He also refuses to sign any further personal checks.
I went out and actually read the article. I might have missed it, but did not see anything to indicate where this school is located, which might be relevant (therefore, would likely by omitted).
The word on the street is that the school board is about to change the name of the school at a cost of $5,000,000. That includes changing the name of the other high school across town, which is John Tyler. Although he was the president that admitted Texas to the union, alas, he was a slave owner.

Rename the school after Robert E. Lee’s father, Henry Lee who was one of George Washington’s generals in the Revolutionary War.

Back when I was in high school, the late 50s and early 60s, and thru the 60s or so, Lee, Lanier and in Birmingham, a HS called Berry were real powers in Alabama football in 4A (the largest classification back then, 7A tops now). Berry has plunged to a stinking 1A class these days. All those huge schools like Chelsea, Hoover, Mt. Brook, etc. have all grown to 7A size and I guess Berry got skunked by them. But back then both those Montgomery schools were 4A powerhouses.
In the 70s or earlier, Lanier and Lee both had really strong track programs. Also for some reason it was also popular.
I watched an indoor meet at the Garret Colosseum and it was packed.
I believe Auburn had a few track guys from the Montgomery schools back in the day that were really great runners.
