What do you think about Juneteenth? Consider how suddenly its been foisted upon us.
I find it very hypocritical to celebrate Juneteenth (end of Slavery), and leave the Political Party that gave us Slavery, the Civil War, Jim Crow, and seggregation n tact. We should outlaw the Democratic Party.
Wow. In 1938 Texas had “separate but equal” holidays.
Well, Johnny Reb (written with all due respect),
The poster I replied to used "Rebel" in his name. I meant it with all due respect and stated as such. I mean the things I write.
Juneteeth is a result of victors of the war of northern aggression - Republicans.
Fact, the Union did win the Civil War. Lead by the first Republican President. I used the term, the "war of northern aggression" in a sympathetic, not sarcastic manner. I never heard anyone from the south that takes offense to the term, "war of northern aggression." I have family in the south and that's where I learned the term. I also had ancestors who went to war on the side of the Confederacy. (I should also note, I had ancestors on the Union side too, but that really doesn't matter other than emphasize I know too well from family history about the blood shed on both sides.)
Not a single Rat wanted it.
I'll assume you do not know what the term "Rat" means. It means DemocRat. Apparently you don't know the good guys from the bad.
Claim it as a victory of Republicans and ridicule southern Democrats, along with other Rat laws and policies meant to keep blacks on the plantation til today.
Notice how I explicitly wrote "southern Democrats". I'm not taking a swipe at all southerns, just Democrats. Words have meaning. Slavery, the KKK, Jim Crow, separate but equal, gun control, abortion, the Great Society, the war on poverty, affirmative action and countless other failed policies and laws from southern Democrats have hurt just not blacks but all Americans. They have certainly held back blacks more than anyone else. Perhaps recognizing Juneteenth is a way to educated blacks and leftists about those things.
At this point, its not beneath me to twist a little known Texas holiday into something more than it is.
This last line can be interpreted as the stupid schiff BLM supporters and leftists want to celebrate Juneteenth but they do not realize the reason why it even exists. It is because Republicans ended slavery. Perhaps we can dupe them into learning more about history through their own ignorance.
In the future you should be careful in who you tell to shut up, call a south basher and virtue signaler. All you have shown is your ignorance and apparent lack of intelligence. Obviously, you have no civility because if you had a question or issue about my original post you could have stated as such and engaged in civil debate. You owe me an apology.
I learned about Juneteenth over a decade ago. This isn’t news or sudden to me. The huge hype over it is though, and on the part of all politicians I believe the push is backed by cowardice.
The holiday goes back to the 1860’s, so it’s by no means new, but I don’t think it was widely celebrated for the entirety of its existence. Like with Cinco though, it’s mostly an excuse to have a BBQ and get blitzed.
It never would have happened if they didn’t highlight the fact that Trump originally was going to have his Rally on it.
That’s another explanation for the low turnout last night, was the last-minute change.
The name is ridiculous. However celebrating the end of slavery is good. I mean nobody wanted it to continue thats for sure. But I think a rename is in order. Cinco de Mayo is a beer holiday. I went to mexico May 5th one year and they dont celebrate it at all.
You are so daft to think this is GOPe versus democrat
You think Andrew jackson was comparable to Nancy Pelosi
You are part of the problem
No clue how to deal with these Jacobins were facing
I have nothing for you
Cucks clinging to MLK day wont win this war
Ive fought virtue signaling quislings over race like u here for 20 years
You and your ilk are giving away western civilization
Dont worry someone will fight for you
Someone like my children
While you crow about your dear Republican Party and how much you love black people
Man we are so far past that
Don't go up against me again because you are too boorish to know when you have been schooled. Save yourself the embarrassment.
I celebrate it every bit as much as I celebrate Kwanza.
Yes, the Ammendment had much greater and lasting impact.

Texas House Bill 1016 passed in the 66th Legislature, Regular Session, declared June 19, “Emancipation Day in Texas,” a legal state holiday effective starting in 1980. Since that time, the celebration of Juneteenth continues across the state of Texas with parades, picnics and dancing.
**************
Juneteenth declined in popularity in the early 1960s, when the civil rights movement, with its push for integration, diminished interest in the event. In the 1970s African Americans’ renewed interest in celebrating their cultural heritage led to the revitalization of the holiday throughout the state. At the end of the decade Representative Al Edwards, a Democrat from Houston, introduced a bill calling for Juneteenth to become a state holiday. The legislature passed the act in 1979, and Governor William P. Clements, Jr., signed it into law. The first state-sponsored Juneteenth celebration took place in 1980.

I hope you wake up
The holiday name doesn’t make sense. Until recently, I never heard of it. However, I would not be opposed to a National Holiday recognizing the freeing of a people from the oppression of slavery. I was once asked, if I had one hour to spend on a park bench and discuss any topic, who would I spend that time with? My answer was, an imperfect God fearing man who wanted all people to live in harmony. Martin Luther King. That’s from an old white guy that is tired of seeing our country ripped apart by segregationists and politicians that don’t give a damn.
I moved to Texas in early June, 1967, and was almost immediately informed of Juneteenth.
