People still cannot visit relatives in nursing homes????
This evil is just burning my heart.
I need to write an article titled, “My dad was a victim of the COVID police state”. In February I flew to Vancouver to arrange his 90th birthday celebration. He lives in a care home, but he has several relatives in the area who assembled for what he called the best birthday of his life. In the midst of the celebration he declared his intention to live to 100. Although he had hearing problems and arthritic knees, he was alert, sharp, and humorous, with no significant memory problems. He could walk with a walker, and his part-time personal assistant would regularly take him out shopping or banking.
Three months into COVID, he was wheelchair-bound and bored out of his skull. His personal assistant could not enter the building to check up on him, nor take him out for exercise. Though COVID-free, he was declining faster than he needed to. Three weeks ago, he contracted pneumonia and went into the hospital. Antibiotics took care of the pneumonia, but he suffered a heart attack in the hospital and is now in palliative care, awaiting death. (Now that he’s in palliative care, I can finally be with him, for “compassionate” reasons.)
I don’t know that his accelerated death was due to COVID confinement, but as you can tell, I have my suspicions.
