Google and the National Football League have joined a growing list of U.S. private sector organizations choosing to commemorate June 19th, the date marking the emancipation of the last remaining slaves at the end of the U.S. Civil War.
Google, a unit of Alphabet Inc, has instructed employees to cancel unnecessary meetings on “Juneteenth,” according to a staff memo seen by Reuters. Meanwhile, the NFL has decided to recognize the date as a league holiday and will close the league office. The date is celebrated as African Americans’ Independence Day, and this year marks the 155th anniversary of the end of slavery in the United States in 1865.

I would bet the mortgage Goodell never heard of Juneteenth until today.
But, the ‘Rats were against Juneteenth back in the day.
And Jubilee!
That’s on the calendar of my phone but I never knew what it was (and I can’t delete it). There’s a few others like that, but Washington’s birthday and Lincoln’s birthday don’t make the cut.
Most blacks don’t observe or even know about Juneteenth.
I never heard of it back east. I saw a few music festivals with Juneteenth in the title when I lived in Oakland, Ca.

This was at Lake Merritt, about one mile from the Jack London area downtown.
If I stopped by, I was always careful to be gone long before sundown. By that time, you find a lot of people walking around wanting to sell drugs, or so I used to hear.
I celebrate it every year.

I noticed that Google did not recognize D-Day.
I think the President should use the occasion to remind the yutz of today how slavery came to an end. Watch their heads explode.
Beginning in the early 1900’s classroom and textbook education instead of traditional home and family-taught practices stifled the interest of the youth due to less emphasis and detail on the activities of former slaves.
The progressives were re-writing the history of slavery.
How many black people had even heard of Juneteenth before this?
This sudden push only started because the Trump rally is to this day. So MSM is pushing the “see how that Trump does not care about black because he scheduled it on that day” narrative. Someone screwed up or sabotaged it because Trump didn’t know. He’s doing his best to get ahead of it but they should not have picked that day. It is an unnecessary distraction.
I only know of it because I live in Texas.
The day REPUBLICANS FREED THE SLAVES!! No help from democrats. But rpeublicans never were forgiven for it. Lots of young white men died, wasted their lives for this thankless ungrateful bunch of ingrates.
Obama had eight years to make it a holiday, and he didn’t. He probably had never heard of it, neither.
Trump speech triggers this. He will be accused as a racist when he speaks in Tulsa.

If they had picked a didferent day, the liberals would have had some oher objection to that date.
[Here we go....If the Democrats sweep into power in November I’d imagine legislation to eliminate Columbus Day as a Federal holiday and replace with Juneteenth.]
