Is there any truth to the notion that there was a separate, slightly more dangerous strain of COVID19 that infected New York compared to the rest of the country? I was listening to an interview of Victor Davis Hanson in which he referred to this. I hadn’t heard that anywhere else.

Yes I heard that from a number of places-nothing authoritative though, but then the usual authoritative sources haven’t been reliable either.
