Three years for the transcript to come out because it was classified for national security. And there is not a single word in that transcript worthy of classification.
Congress (well, at least the Senate) had better find out who — and why — that document was needlessly classified and lied about.
Mueller’s team surely knew that the distinction between sanctions and expulsions mattered when it came to Flynn and his conversation with the FBI agents because shortly after Strzok and Pientka questioned Flynn, Flynn publicly refuted media reports that he had discussed sanctions with Russia. I had “a brief discussion of the 35 Russian diplomats who were being expelled by Obama in retaliation for Moscow’s alleged interference in the 2016 campaign. ‘It wasn’t about sanctions. It was about the 35 guys who were thrown out,’” Flynn stated.
We now know Flynn was telling the truth and Mueller’s team was lying — both to the court and to America. The Department of Justice is seeking to right that wrong, at least to the extent possible, by dismissing the criminal charge against the retired lieutenant general.
I've been following the case since day 1 and I'll be honest when I read the transcript I was disheartened. I thought that the distinction between "sanctions" and "expulsions" was splitting hairs. But WOW. This Flynn quote shows that in FLYNN'S mind, there was a real difference between sanctions and expulsions.
This explains exactly why the FBI agents would have thought he wasn't being deceitful. Because he genuinely believed he was telling the truth. And he was! He was being accurate about a distinction that mattered to him.
It may even be that McCabe and crew didn't understand the distinction until later, so maybe they initially really did think he was lying.
But the rest of the article clearly shows that they must have figured out the truth at some point, which is why they refused to reveal the transcript, even after a court ordered it.
