I had a conversation, while I was in college, with two members of the Weather Underground, a male and a female. When I condemned violence in the pursuit of “peace”, the female told me something like, “We don’t want people to get hurt, but we are fighting against a system that has to be changed.”

Up until that moment, in my naive, sheltered life, I had never considered that there could be people other than stark raving lunatics who could be so callous regarding human life. “Sociopath wasn’t in my vocabulary yet.

Sorry to go on so much, but I don’t consider this a slide since we are seeing the described mind-set play out right now.
