I am scheduled to fly from NY(LaGuardia)to South Dakota next week(June 5th) with a brief stop in Minneapolis.

Well, I lived in near Denver, CO for 10 years, so I don’t think it is much worse than Colorado.
MSP is a terrific airport, have been there in the dead of winter when I couldn’t believe they were still operating in heavy snow, so a little smoke from downtown 15 miles away shouldn’t affect them!
MSP has the best selection of restaurants of any airport I’ve been to. I’ve flown through MSP on standby many times, and spent more than a few nights. Quite a few places to stretch out and take a nap. Just bring ear plugs or noise cancelling earphones/headset. Get real loud with all the cleaning machines at night.
Great point. Perspective,common sense and situational awareness is key. This is all very serious but media and even our side can hype. I was at a foreign airport once and it closed due to threat of bad guys wanting to blow a plane out of the sky and warned once that going into a city was a death sentence to Americans.

I would not say nothing. But I also experience many blizzards in Massachusetts. Lived there from 2014 to 2019. Live presently in NY.
I don’t think South Dakota winters are that much worse than my experiences in Colorado, Massachusetts and Eureka Nevada.
I have more concern of Antifa than any weather issues.
Denver snow is much milder than in Massachusetts.
The airport is outside the city. If you haven’t been through that airport beforee you might be surprised by the number of Somalians working there. Not what you might expect in Minnesota...
As far as being safe, I don’t know about that.
I DO know that the Minneapolis Airport is one of the worst I’ve been in as far as design and layout. Build in a LOOONG layover at that airport if you go there. Also, be aware of the time zone.
Good luck with your possible relocation. We escaped blue CA for red TN, and have been thankful every day for 10 years now.
The most unsafe thing at the Minneapolis Airport is CNN on the TVs in the waiting areas.
