Mike Tomlin likes the discussion around an incentivized minority hiring process in the NFL.
On "Coffee with Cal," hosted by Kentucky men's basketball coach John Calipari, on Monday morning, the Pittsburgh Steelers head coach said he likes the idea of a change to the Rooney Rule that rewards teams for hiring minority candidates.

Nope. That is different. They are there based on talent. But white head coaches are only there because of white privilege. Got it?
It is a stupid idea. If I am an owner, a third round pick will not give me incentive to hire a lesser coach. Oh I could have gotten Belicheck but instead i took numb nuts here so I could get Joe Snuffy, LB outta Iowa. That should get me o the SB.
WTF is this asshole talking about? He should take a count of “minorities” playing that game and he would find out that the minority he is talking about is NOT of his heritage.
That is why I do NOT follow professional football like I used to. WAY to many cry babies and whiners.
There will never be real professionals coaching that game any longer-like Lombardi, who was a REAL coach who taught lessons (educated the players) while he was coaching.
And his players LOVED him for it. Not only in Green Bay, but in Washington, the short while he coached there.
This really does disgust me.
So in Mike’s mind, the color of one’s skin is of more importance than what it takes to be a coach.
How many players are black vs white? Seems to me white players are in the minority when it comes to football.
Ever since he expressed his love for Hillary, I lost some respect for him.
Merit. Not the color of ones skin.

There is an incentive for hiring the best candidate: winning games and making money.
You can bet they will be calling for that lesbo 49er assistant coach to be considered for a head coaching position.
The day Coach Tomlin let Alejandro Villanueva walk out of the tunnel to stand alone for the National Anthem was the last moment I have watched my beloved Steelers. I was a lifelong fan but will not get past that moment.
Tomlin allowed nothing. AV showed himself to be a patriot first and football player second. You should be proud of AV. Tomlin did let AB and Leveon Bell run the asylum and hopefully he has learned a lesson. BTW, the Rooneys are all bigtime DEMs and that isnt going to change. Lifelong season ticket holder here.
One might suggest to Coach Tomlin, that if he’s interested in seeing more black coaches in the NFL he could do well to look out for the professional interests of one guy in particular...
Let’s see:
Merit VS Affirmative Action hiring
Affirmative Action Hiring VS MERIT
IF I am paying your salary——I will always hire MERIT.
Would that ‘Incentive’ be called Bribery of Extortion???
How about someday, maybe not that far off, that Tomlin is no longer there? Aren’t the Steelers organization bigger than just one guy?
Amazing that in over 50 years, they’ve had three head coaches.
“The Steelers have done a lot of damage with this nonsense.”
Hardly. All the owners approved the Rooney Rule.
There are only around 14 black coaches in the FBS, five of them in the weak PAC-12. Not many of that 14 are all that great. The talent pool is just too small.
********
Yeh, but Im thinking the problem will start self correcting in the near future. The most talented head coaches come up from the quarterback ranks as qbs tend to have a global understanding of the whole game. And, theres a lot more black qbs now both in college and the NFL. So, the talent pool for black head coaches will grow as well.
So sez the minority hire...
Yes,the Steelers Organization is bigger than one man. Still not watching. None of the Steelers had knelt prior to that game. I was so mad that instead of telling the players to just stand Tomlin took the coward way out and had them stay in the locker room that game. None of the other players came out to have Villanueva’s back. Then Tomlin threw Villanueva under the bus after the incident. I hope to watch again one day. We shall see.
I dont follow football but I looked up Tomlins record. He seems to be a pretty good coach.
