“..is a “thermal feature” a steaming hole in the ground?
It most certainly is.

And Yellowstone, which happens to sit atop a MEGA volcano, is absolutely lousy with them.”

This woman got LUCKY! Multiple folks perish each year by wandering off the boardwalks.

As for the caldera, I live 90 miles north of the park and have a pock-marked piece of lava that was unearthed during a commercial dig at 30’ underground. It’s about 15 pounds and would take a great amount of force to make it travel 90 miles.

Have a great weekend.

I was in Yellowstone in 1969, when there were a lot of “bear jams”. Nearly everyone stops to take pictures of the “cute” bears, approach the bears, give the bears cookies, and get mauled by the bears. Yes, even the black bears would maul. And the bears were conditioned then to mooch from the side of the road, thanks to tourists and their idea of bears being from Yogi Bear cartoons.
I got a real good impression of what a bear can do while watching a moose feeding in the shallows of the Yellowstone River, not to far from the lake and well upstream of the falls. This was using binoculars, so I was a good distance away. Grizzly just exploded and took the moose down.
As for the thermal features, there are places not too far from the boardwalks where the crust is thin, steam or boiling water just beneath.

Aside from everything else...the woman is a nitwit. I hope she enjoys her Darwin Award Honorable Mention. What an oaf.

She shouldn’t be allowed back into that park, though they probably don’t keep a list of visitors. And she better not be thinking of suing anybody. T’was her own fault.

Law breaker and stupid.
She is DOOMED.

".... She shouldn’t be allowed back into that park.... "

It might not make a difference. Even though we don't know the extent of her injuries, she might not survive this fall into a thermal "feature". People die from their burns or have extensive burn injuries. Water can reach as high as 250 degrees. These are not things to trifle with. But death from cold water drownings exceed hot water burnings by far.

Factoid (figures are from 2014): Since 1872 when the park opened, 100 people have died from drowning in Yellowstone's frigid lakes, some of the coldest in the country. During the same period, the thermal pools and geysers have taken 19 people over the decades. And surprisingly, only 5 people have died from bear attacks.

Not surprisingly, nowadays people are the biggest threat to life and limb in Yellowstone. Plain old auto accidents occur quite often and take lives unnecessarily.

“they probably don’t keep a list of visitors”

Yet they want churches to keep a list of all their worshipers and send it in to the government, who wants to help us.

As per FR protocol photographic evidence is needed to determine guilt.

She wasn't practicing proper thermal feature distancing. Was she at least wearing a face mask?

An aside - Bet one of those was where Tylee and JJ Vallow ended up in. Rangers are supposed to start searching when the snow melts.

The Old Faithful Geyser erupts about every 90 minutes, according to the NPS, and the average water temperature is 169.7 degrees Fahrenheit.

Not according to any source I can find. I became suspicious about the precision of the claimed temperature. First, I checked if that would convert to a common Celsius temperature, which turns out to be 76.5 deg. (C)

Then I looked at the National Park Service website, which states: During an eruption, the water temperature at the vent has been measured at 204°F (95.6C). The steam temperature has been measured above 350°.

So where did this number come from? Thin air? I couldn't find any source that had the temperature that low. Maybe they were talking about the temperature in the pool?

Then I actually looked at the Mercury News article itself and discovered - surprise, surprise - that it originated with CNN. Elsewhere in the article, they mention a man who had fallen into a 212 degree pool and died. Good trick, considering that water boils at just under 200 degrees at that altitude. Once again, we witness shoddy lazy reporting from CNN - but I repeat myself.

Unfortunately, this happens all the time when the Park is open. She's lucky she lived. The boardwalks aren't there to make the Park look pretty, they are there to keep people safe when approaching terrain that can easily boil a human alive.

And there are always the dopes who don't understand the "wild" in wild animals. We were camping up there when one morning a bison ambled through the campground. Luckily, everyone froze until it wandered back out. You have no idea how big they are until you are close to one. Yuge!

She drove for assistance. I believe she is still able to contribute.

If that is how you want to characterize it.

Yet they want churches to keep a list of all their worshipers and send it in to the government, who wants to help us.

1. Who exactly are "they"?
2. No church can keep a list of their worshipers. There is a list if people ENROLLED into that church. But, people are allowed to attend Masses at other parishes.

When we traveled all over the world I went to Masses all over the world.
I remember the Catholic Church in Belgrade, Seria. The priest spotted me :o) and kept his eye on me. I only understood TWO words in Serbian: Jesus and Christ. But I had been at Mass all my life, all over the world and the Masses are all identical. MY Missal has the LATIN words on the left sides of the Missal and the English on the right sides. So I knew what was happening and where.

When we went to Rome, naturally I went to St. Peter's Basilica. It is an AMAZING place. There are two main altars and dozens of side altars.
I decided to go to confession since I was there. WELL, there were dozens of confessionals, all listed by languages. I went to the confessional listed: English and Chinese...so the priest who heard my confession spoke BOTH English and Chinese!

3. Then, accordingly, there should be a government agency to receive this "list" of worshipers. Lol. Can you IMAGINE that? As you say, "the government" would have to appoint all kinds of people. BOTH parties would disobey.

The U.S Government "helps" me enough every tax day, thank you very much.

Just imagine if Hillary had been elected.
*Our income taxes would have QUADRUPLED!
**We would have NO MORE borders--and all the leeches on the planet would swarm in.
***There would be government welfare for all those ILLEGAL immigrants and those who WON'T work.
****WE hard working stiffs would collect NOTHING even if we put in decades of Social Security.
*****Disability? Forget about it.

ALL our hard work would be to pay for Hillary's pets--not a red cent for us "deplorables."
