I have no idea. It’s a hypothetical that didn’t happen and there is no video of the hypothetical event to make comments on.
Why not stick to what happened and the video which supports the event and apparently also supports what the neighbors said happened?

It appears he was attempting to arm himself by disarming one of his pursuers. And I have no doubt a claim of self defense would have been claimed. Whether or not that claim would sway would be dependent on the victims actions just prior to the incident along with any history of running afoul of the law.
