According to the liberals/progressives - this is hell on earth!
“On Sark, there is no income tax, no welfare, and no help from the National Health Service.”
It’s a very, very long article. One which I skimmed vs read word for word. What I did read was quite interesting.
This would make a good series of period piece movies.
I doubt if the land of Sark remains as pristine and incubated from the outside world now, but one never knows. The known, civilized world is an immense place. Much can remain unseen, especially, when that is the preference.
Sounds like a true iron lady.
Ping.
” Two additional roundups targeted 50 people, including Dame Sibyls husband Bob, an American citizen, who was sent to a prison camp in Bavaria. (Bob maintained his resistance in prison: He smoked a pipe during the daily parade; stood at ease when he was called to attention; and snuck secret doses of liquor.)”

Yanks always find a way lol
80 years ago today, May 10 1940, Germany attacked France, violating Belgian neutrality in doing so ans in some six weeks drove British forces into the sea and off the continent entirely.
Good series about the Nazi occupation of the Channel Islands

fascinating!
An excellent read.
Almost a mini-Margaret Thatcher, in her own way!
Very good, for the islanders.

Isn't a female "Lord" called a "Lady?"
What a great article, especially on Mother’s Day.
Thanks for sharing.
Good story.
Hey, read the entire story . Liked the part about the Germans making butter out of skim milk! Thanks for the post.
Fascinating stuff, thanks for posting!
thanks great post.
our pastor just gave a great sermon on the “Wise Woman” for Mother’s Day, which he summarized by making three biblical points about her:
1. She builds her house.
2. She hears good council and accepts correction when necessary.
2. She’s made up her mind (her heart is not divided).
In the article, Dame Sybil, imo, perfectly exemplified those three principles under the dire circumstance of German occupation and completely qualifies as a very wise woman and mother.
we all would do well to follow her example under present circumstances.
Thanks for the article. I never had even heard of Sark.
