After 10 weeks of tortuous public deliberation that seemed to take him to the brink of candidacy, Gov. Mario M. Cuomo stepped back today and announced that he would not run for President in 1992.

culminated a surreal political odyssey in which the Governor abandoned his claim to have "no plans and no plans to make plans" to run and then kept the country guessing about whether he would.

Like Father Like Son, Andy Cuomo has no plans and has no plans to create a plan to reopen the New York State economy.

The Cuomo's have a genetic predisposition to NOT be leaders. They cannot make tough decisions, meanwhile the state has been in a decades long decline because of both Cuomo's.

You watched all eight seasons of The Sopranos?

It’s like that.

His soaring popularity is a mystery to me. When I hear him speak (radio only, no TV) he sounds mildly retarded.

That clears the way for Joe Biden in 1992!

He is just following the Democrat California model. Ignore everything as long as possible.Eventually everyone will move or Die. It should be the Democrat Motto. move or Die. California will end from a fire, flood or quake sooner or later.

Are you kidding? The Mob had his n**s in a sack.

I met Cuomo and Ferraro in 84. She wanted no part of actually being seen with Mondull, so she barnstormed the Midwest with Mario. Dude was dazzling in a medium-sized room, better than Bubba, who to me always left a room quietly thinking to themselves that they had just heard from a user-car salesman. Mario, you figured, left the room to order a hit! But in a nice way!

Most heavyweight Democrats in late 1991 did not want to run for president in 1992. They were looking at the polls and seeing Bush 41 with a very high approval rating following the victorious gulf war. To them, it seemed like a lost cause.

That left the field open for less notables, like little known Arkansas governor Bill Clinton.

If it wasn't for location, California would be done already.

The Democratic field in 1991 was known as “six pack & pepperoni”. Mario Cuomo’s legendary arrogance already placed him above the pack.

But remember that Clinton the Arkansas Cannonball had the luxury of running against a split ticket. The little hand grenade with a bad haircut aka H. Ross Perot entered the race with a single goal: derail George H.W. Bush’s reelection. He succeeded and retreated into obscurity.

Also remember that whereas Michael Dukakis lost to Bush in 1988 with 44% of the popular vote; Clinton won in 1992 with a 43% plurality of the vote. The Clintons never had a popular mandate.

Meanwhile, Pope Mario the Pious lost his bid for a fourth term as governor in 1994, already believing himself governor-for-life. He retired to being a multimillionaire rainmaker for a huge NY law firm, and was reduced to begging Rush Limbaugh not to broadcast his net worth as it might make him look like a wealthy liberal hypocrite. No, really.

Bush Sr. ran a lousy re-election campaign in ‘92. Clinton was a well spoken charmer, bamboozler so he got all the dumb ass voters. The lil General Ross Perot as an Independent siphoned off a nice chunk of voters from Bush and that’s how we got the Clintoons.

Very hard to find Bill Clinton’s quote “Cuomo, sounds like mafioso.” on the internet.

I have never understood the Clinton phenomenon.

The first time I heard Slick speak, early 80s maybe. To me he came across as a sleazy local car or aluminum siding salesman. I remember the media dubbing him “The Education Governor”! Of course if you checked you couldn't find any great strides that Arkansas made in education when he was governor. It bounced around trading places every so often at the bottom with Mississippi and WV.

It was obvious to me from the beginning he was a fraud.

Hellary is another mystery to me I remember being at a management training seminar in early 1992 and all & I mean all the women were mesmerized by her. As politely as I could I asked them to explain why. None could, none when pressed could put out any accomplishments. Few knew of her Watergate Committee attorney days, fewer still knew she had been fired by the Democrat chief counsel for ethics violation.
