There is a work around to force a link color using the deprecated tag.

Yikes, never knew it was deprecated, as it always worked for me on FR!

What replaced it?

And is there any replacement for the VERY VERY OLD "blink" ?

Browsers still support it, but it's replaced mainly by the <span>, but nearly any wrapping tag can contain CSS styles. No real need for it. We use it on FR because it does not support inline styling. The <blink> tag is deprecated, but still works. Not all browsers support it. I don't think any Mozilla engine browsers support it. You can do blinking and other cool things with CSS opacity.
