Southwest Airlines joins other major carriers in requiring passengers to mask up

Southwest Airlines is joining other major carriers in requiring passengers and employees who interact with them to wear face masks.

Starting Sunday, the Dallas-based airline’s employees who have contact with passengers will be required to don face coverings. Passengers will be required starting May 11.

JetBlue started the trend April 27 when it said travelers would have to cover their noses and mouths during trips, beginning next week. Delta, Alaska, United and American quickly followed.

“Southwest always claimed to be competing with the private passenger automobile on short segments. If so, they are probably in worse shape than their competitors, for just the reason you mentioned. If people do have to make that 400 mile trip, now, they would much rather drive.”

Not so much these days, as they now fly between the coasts and flying short distances is (or was) a pain for numerous reasons. Their market is much longer routes now - they’re fine, and now that they’re going to make 80% (or more) of their passengers happy by requiring masks, they’ll be ready to start flying lots of people, once again.

“Didn’t realize Southwest Airlines is in charge of defending Constitutional rights.”

Didn’t say they were,
just pointing out your apparent glee at the prospect of people being hauled of in handcuffs due to a RECENT sissified fear of germs. Guess you’ll be six feet away from humanity from now on, right?

You guys give up that battle when it came to rights of people to smoke cigarettes. Where were you guys? Probably on the side of the non-smokers, if I had to wager money. If not, I certainly didn’t hear jack from you then.

And, as usual, you would be wrong. A true constitutional conservative is consistent in application of their philosophy. I have never been a smoker but have always defended the rights of smokers, including rejection of the second-hand smoke scam. I have also never owned a gun but I’m certainly grateful for those who do.

You really need to face the fact that you’ve allowed yourself to be worked up into an irrational frenzy. I realize it may be embarrassing to own your gullibility and the temptation to just keep digging your hole rather than admit it is quite powerful. Witness your giddy joy at the vision of your fellow citizens marched off in handcuffs because they don’t agree with you. But in the end you will find yourself at peace if you just let it go. Live your life as you see fit and give others the respect to do the same.

“”not that way in NYC” until they started to dig them up looking for them. “

It didn’t take much ‘digging’ in NYC to realize that they had 27,000 DEAD PEOPLE in a time span when 6,000 people normally would have died.

Sure, blame it on shootings, or something, if you need to. But MOST PEOPLE figure it had something to do with Coronavirus.

Good luck with your (hypothetical) doctor’s note!

And, by not being a FluBro, I have N95’s for myself and my family, so there’s really no you guys can infect us, no matter what.

“I was on the side of smokers, not yet here then.”

I don’t doubt that - but there still wasn’t even a fight, and that pissed me off (and I say that as a non-smoker). To this day, everything about so-called ‘second-hand smoke’ is lies.

Masks were required in 1918 in this country, and we’re still free.

Because medical professionals realized in 1918 that the flu was passed through respiratory droplets, there was a nationwide call for Americans to make and wear masks. And like most of today’s guidelines, masks were encouraged but not mandatory, except for in a few cities — like San Francisco — which made masks mandatory by penalty of fine or imprisonment.

Unfortunately, despite this law, San Francisco’s infection and death rates were pretty much identical to those of Boston, Buffalo, and Washington, where masks were optional.

The most important reason to study history is to not repeat mistakes of the past. Unfortunately the lessons from the Spanish Flu pandemic have been lost in the effort to propagandize COVID-19.

The mask will become the baseline PPE requirement that they will use to open the economy. People will be standing in line at Disney in 90 degree heat breathing through a mandated-cloth.

I have friends on Facebook already shaming those who do not wear a mask.

Sorry, I want an effective immune system... I’ll wear a mask where the BUSINESSES I choose require it, not where the government directs.

Self-regulation is a thing!

Yeah, and hydroxycloroquine+zinc doesn’t work.

Biggest CON since the Bolsheviks, Nazis and Maoists but we’re getting close.

While I agree with your depiction of my bod, my primary concern is the relatively small number of very dangerous super-spreaders - people who show no symptoms, but spread the virus like crazy.

Ah...the mythical super spreaders. Another piece of propaganda the fearpers fall for every time. Who are these mysterious superspreaders? Has there been a single one identified? Obviously you believe the world is full of them. Who are they? Have you notified the gestapo?

Your idea of 'protection' and mine are somewhat different...

.

One deters the infected as well as snitches and assorted fear-mongering Covid Creeps from being where they don't belong...the other covers your face and becomes a breeding ground for covid germs they claim to protect from.

You believe HCQ+Zinc works when the NIH said it didn’t. I believe HCQ+Zinc works too.

But you believe masks don’t work because the Surgeon General said they didn’t or because you just don’t want to wear one. Yet the AHA, Nature Medicine magazine, and various other countries say they do.

Masks don’t work is a con.

I haven’t said Anything about masks.

As far as HCQ, about a month ago the NIH or CDC was good to go with it. Then, miraculously now they aren’t,
i.e. CON !

I get that, and I agree that HCQ has not been treated the same as Gilead’s drug, and the panel that determines the treatment has 9 out of 50 people with financial ties to Gilead. That’s a problem and a con.

But Surgeon General telling the nation that masks don’t work was a con too. He might have had a noble purpose, protecting supplies for medical workers, but it was no less deceptive.

The virus is not a con. The virus is what it is, and it’s taking lives. This thread is about masks. Masks work. Not 100%, but they definitely help.

I'm not saying the virus is a con, I'm saying the artificially inflated and hyped reaction is.
