Now I'm a big Beatles/Lennon fan, but none of them were bluesy like Allman or Cocker, or powerful like Elvis or Burdon. Or even melodic like Van Morrison.

Agreed. Lennon might be one of the best writers in the business. But far from one of the best vocalists.
