I think the right doesn’t get involved in these things as much is because when you have a conversation with these enlightened liberals it always devolves into some climate change subject or other mindless brainwashing. Totally predictable.

Is it really the same accomplishment?

I think it's great that we work to make areas more accessible and yes, I even recognize the value of taking the experience up a notch or two for people who are into that kind of thing. But we shouldn't loose sight of the value of real accomplishment.

I've hiked mountains and deserts - spent days at a time in both. If I spend all day hiking up to a peak and back down that's not the same experience as someone who hops on an ATV and zooms up and back in an hour. I like being on the trail and not seeing anyone else, seeing the last sign-in at the trail head was a week ago. Knowing I'm doing something few can or would. Sure, ATVs, off-road (dirt) bikes, dual-sport/adventure bikes, horses, etc. are fun. But we need spaces for each to enjoy. We can't pave every trail and set up a fast food joint half way there.

That could work. Might need some kind of launcher for the start of the flight. Trebuchet?

K2 is the climb for real men who don’t care about showing off to the ignorant on instagram.

Agreed, it’s a technical mountain. For anyone interested in a pretty documentary, check out “Meru”. Can’t remember if it is on Amazon, Netflix, etc.

The photos of the luxury tents and the cell masts are all taken at base camp.

It would be interesting to know the mortality rate of the four week climbers who summit - if any of them do.

Wasn’t it just last year there was like a mile long line to get to the top?

Before this is over, there not only will there be a chair lift, it will likely be run by Disney. Get to the top and have your picture taken with Micky Mouse for $500. There will be a gift shop too where you can buy a chunk of Himalayan salt carved into a multitude of Disney characters.

Read “Into Thin Air” by Jon Krakauer. The movie adaptation was just OK, the book is gripping. It’s a firsthand account of how weather, financial pressure, equipment failures, etc all came together to produce a tragedy that killed 8 climbers in a single day. The IMAX team was one of those on the mountain at that time, and displayed great skill and compassion as they assisted in rescue efforts.

Annapurna is the most dangerous of the big peaks. The whole mountain is an avalanche waiting to happen.

Challenging Everest? Why not drop in at Ricky Pule’s, only 24,000 feet from this cinema. Ricky and Maurice offer a variety of styles for the well-groomed climber. Why should Tenzing and Sir Edmond Hillary be number one on top, when you’re number one on top?
