Why would you wear a mask alone in your own vehicle?

Lincoln Park Police Department 5 hrs · *****This post has been updated*****

Considering the overwhelming response this post has received, the following should be said. NJ residents should absolutely continue to follow the directives regarding face coverings put in place by our Governor. As it relates to this specific incident, we reiterate that police officers are not physicians and do not know the medical history of every person we encounter. We conduct accident scene investigations using training, experience and observations at the scene to determine a cause. It was stated in the original post that we "believed" the excessive wearing of an N95 mask was a contributing factor to this accident. While we don't know this with 100% certainty, we do know that the driver had been wearing an N95 mask inside the vehicle for several hours and ultimately passed out while operating the vehicle. We also know that nothing was uncovered at the accident scene that would suggest that the driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. All this being said, It is certainly possible that some other medical reason could've contributed to the driver passing out. We are not trying to cause public alarm or suggest wearing an N95 mask is unsafe. The original point of the post was to state that in most cases, the wearing of this type of mask while operating a vehicle with no other occupants is unnecessary.

The LPPD responded to a lone occupant single car motor vehicle crash yesterday. The crash is believed to have resulted from the driver wearing an N95 mask for several hours and subsequently passing out behind the wheel due to insufficient oxygen intake/excessive carbon dioxide intake. Motorists and the public alike are reminded that while masks should be used in public settings to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, they are not necessary outdoors when social distancing can be maintained, and especially not necessary when driving a vehicle with no additional occupants. #besafe #PSA #motorvehiclecrash #covid19 #lppd

Surgical masks (such as the one in that picture) are just as effective for most purposes as are N95s. Save the N95s for specialized health care tasks that specifically require them - they are in very short supply.

You really need one with a vent for exhaling. It doesn’t much protect others, but it is a lot easier to breathe through.

Notice how if the vehicle is not an SUV the driver gets the blame?

I had a similar problem with a bandanna and coffee filter in the store.

I can’t really wear it for any length of time without feeling like I’m going to pass out, especially as the basket gets heavier and I get to check out and bagging them.

I know all the workers in masks aren’t breathing easy either.

So my homemade Hefty N100 mask would be bad to use while driving?

Don’t Surgeons wear the same Mask when wielding sharp implements in the Operating Room?

Just askin’...

How do the police know this? Were they following the driver around for hours, or did the police just take the drivers word for it? It has been my experience that police seldom take anyone at their word.

This mask thing is 100% virtue signaling for the left Make no mistake about it - look at Congress yesterday There is only one visible way you can show” I’m afraid of this 🦠 virus !.” or “ i care about this virus “ or “ I’m showing solidarity”. and that’s to wear a mask Now masks like in 95 are very important if you’re trying to prevent yourself from breathing particulate matter or pathogens in in a highly dangerous situation like near a fire or if you’re in a hospital environment Now if you’re outside; in your car ; walking your dog - or any other place it is the height of stupidity to wear a mask! First of all masks don’t really do anything - any expert will tell you this When you get to the serious stuff- that’s fitted !!! yes it works and works well But as you will see in the upcoming days there is no way for them to control your behavior other than banning you from doing things or making you wear a mask The temperature scan , which is coming probably at all airports and in large buildings ,, is a non-invasive very easy thing that doesn’t even involve physical touching As I’m sitting here typing , I’m watching a woman walk down the street by herself walking her dog in the middle of nowhere The point of the story is very important ! you can suffocate yourself By breathing in your own carbon dioxide if you’re not careful with these stupid things!! For us conservatives your best bet if you’re forced to wear some thing when entering the store is a bandanna ! again they don’t care about whether you’re preventing your own intake , or not wanting virus to be spread by you - which again these masks that are not fitted and sphistaicated. DO NOT DO all they ( liberal virtue signallers ) care about is - adherence to the look of putting a face covering on!! Bandannas are very comfortable and allow very easy breathing in and out and are by far the best thing to use to adhere to liberal policies which state do you have to wear one when you’re not able to social distance

Must have really been an N100 mask. Or they clogged it up after wearing it 24/7 for months. In NEW JERSEY.

The N95 mask makes it difficult to inhale due to its restrictive nature. It has a check valve that makes it easy to exhale. That means that it only protects the wearer from others. Because of the check valve, it does NOT protect others from any illness in the wearer. Because of this, it does not even meet the objective of the mandate to wear “a mask”.

The point about breathing carbon dioxide is nonsense. The wearer breathes the air around him. The mask restricts incoming droplets, not air.
