It is easy to fake. Just get someone else with a phone to start texting you. Particularly since he blacked out the number. A lot of people do it to put up fake "funny" conversations on imgur & 9gag type boards.

In this instance, it would be stupid. Faking something like that could even be criminal, and easy to catch. So, who knows.
