Facial recognition systems are kind of like antimissile defense systems in this way: it costs much less for an individual to defeat the system than the system costs.

I doubt they will be anything like foolproof - at least for non-cooperative subjects - for quite a few years.

If they don't work for non-cooperative subjects, they're useless for law enforcement. In fact worse than useless, because the bad guys will fool them, and good guys who happen to resemble the bad guys will get harassed, arrested, shot, etc.

I was just thinking on this the other day. The same government that has spent millions of dollars on facial recognition is now telling us to wear masks.

A couple of years back, I attended a football game, and later someone sent me a link saying excitedly "At this website, you can choose the game you went to, and you can see yourself clearly just by finding your seat!"

Sure enough, it was true. This was the resolution at the time, and that was a while back. I have no doubt it is far better, but even that image is good enough I would think.

It gave me the creeps the more I thought about it.
