Pork Plant at Center of South Dakota’s Virus Outbreak Had Visit From CCP-Tied Owners

A Smithfield Foods pork processing plant in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, was visited by representatives from its Chinese Communist Party-tied parent company one month before the first COVID-19 case was confirmed at the facility, according to three employees.

After the first illness was confirmed at the plant on March 26, the facility quickly became the epicenter of the state’s outbreak of the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus, commonly known as the novel coronavirus. South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem wrote in an April 11 letter that 238 plant employees had contracted the virus, accounting for 38 percent of the state’s confirmed cases at the time.

The outbreak has intensified since. More than 518 employees have tested positive for the virus as of April 15, in addition to 126 non-employees who have become infected after coming into contact with a Smithfield employee, according to the South Dakota Department of Health.

Executives from WH Group, Smithfield’s parent company in China, regularly visit the plant, according to two employees. The visit preceding the first confirmed case didn’t include a plant tour and was limited to meetings in a separate building, another employee said. The visit took place roughly a month after President Donald Trump had banned travel from China, where the pandemic originated.

A China-owned pork processor announced Sunday that it’s shutting down a South Dakota plant indefinitely after employees were infected with coronavirus, noting that the nation’s grocers are under severe stress.

Smithfield Foods announced the shutdown as government officials keep lockdowns in place across the country amid an ebbing coronavirus pandemic, which has killed more than 20,000 people in the United States. China’s WH Group purchased the company in 2013 for $4.7 billion.

>>>The hogs may be raised here but I’ve read that the meat is processed in China using Chinese standards. The processed meat is shipped back here and sold as a ‘Raised in the USA’ product<<<

Internet Rumor. Haven’t seen anything that substantiates that claim.

Thanks, it’s true that it’s not limited to plants owned by Smithfield.

The parent company made record profits in 2019 by shipping low cost US pork to China.

I bet they tricked Trump by including the Smithfield pork as “farm exports” to China.

Why China Is Snatching Land from U.S. Farmers
By CASEY WILSON, Associate Editor, Money Morning • July 7, 2017

Shuanghui Group, the largest pork producer in the world and the largest meat producer in China, dominated headlines in 2013 when it purchased U.S. pork producer Smithfield Foods Inc. for almost $4.7 billion.

https://moneymorning.com/2017/07/07/why-china-is-snatching-land-from-u-s-farmers/

But here’s what the mainstream media missed: Shuanghui didn’t just acquire the livestock. The Chinese conglomerate also snatched up more than 146,000 acres of farmland across the United States, worth a staggering $500 million, according to U.S. Department of Agriculture Data.

Here’s why they did it – and what it all means for American farmers. (Hint: It’s not good.)
China is in dire need of both food and farms.

Per capita consumption of pork in China last year was 85.3 pounds, compared with 59.3 pounds in the U.S. When you factor in the difference in the size of each country’s population — 1.344 billion vs. 314 million — the Chinese demand for pork is still about six times larger than in the United States.

Thanks for the Info, but the OP said the Live Hogs were sent to China, Slaughtered there to save money and then the Meat was sent back to the US for Sale.

The Article you referenced doesn’t say that.

Chinese investors and firms own a majority of almost 2,400 American companies employing 114,000 people, about the same number as the combined U.S. staffs of Google, Facebook and Tesla, according to data from MacroPolo.

Why it matters: Chinese trade and investment are among the most divisive topics in the U.S., and a focus of Trump administration threats to crack down against Beijing. MacroPolo’s map appears to be the first open-source, county-by-county study of every majority-owned Chinese company in the U.S. — $56 billion worth.

Years ago I was visiting a friend in Flagstaff AZ and commented about all the trains passing through. I also saw them as I drove in I-40 crossing the USA.

He said that there were over 200 long trains per day, all double stacked with cargo containers of Chinese goods.

Sadly, the United States could not fight World War II today.

There will never be another WW in the shape of WW II, except the ending.

The next large scale war will be started and ended with nukes, and when that happens, we better be on the right side of GOD.

Since the chi-coms started this virus, let's take back the plant and farmland as part of a down payment for the cost of the virus on the US economy.

I hope you are wrong but Mrs. Alaska keeps telling me that it's coming, and wants me to buy more ammo.

I told her, we'll run out of food before we run out of ammo, and we probably have enough food for 4-6 months {and toilet paper}.

It does not look good.

The Civil War will be between the Globalists vs the Nationalists.

We see the battle lines being drawn right now.

Genuine Smithfield Ham is like Zellwood Corn or Vidalia Onions

It’s a type of ham from a specific region

Smithfield Foods is another animal ...a corporate mantle specializing in pork products

I know it is confusing
