A 99-year-old woman is on the road to recovery from the coronavirus after exercising the Right To Try Act and receiving hydroxychloroquine treatment, her family says.
Doctors say Evelyn Rand is doing “outstanding” and has hope for a “full recovery” after being one of the first of 38 residents in her Little Rock, Arkansas, nursing home to be diagnosed with the coronavirus, according to THV 11 News.
Rand’s family credits the anti-malaria drug hydroxychloroquine, which has been touted by President Trump to the dismay of many of his critics, as effective in helping her recover.
"We did ask for them to exercise the Right to Try Act based on what had been used in other countries,” Rand’s granddaughter, Ashley McConnell, said. “Which, for this case, it was hydroxychloroquine. So, she was started on a five-day dose of monotherapy."
"Those patients that have recovered, you know, that's going to bring so much hope to people. That's what we want to hear right now,” McConnell said.
She added that she hopes to hear that her grandmother is fully recovered by Thursday.
Trump signed the Right To Try Act in 2018, giving patients the right to try experimental drugs.
"For many years, patients, advocates, and lawmakers have fought for this fundamental freedom and incredibly they couldn’t get it," he said at the time. "And there were reasons. A lot of it was business, pharmaceuticals, a lot of it was insurance, a lot of it was liability, and so I said you take care of that stuff. And that’s what we did."
The president has been widely criticized by members of the media for touting the positive effects of hydroxychloroquine despite several testimonials showing positive results.

99% of the people that get this disease recover. (Or show no symptoms.)
How is that calculated into the HCQ discussion?
I mean, if 95% of the people recover from this without ANYTHING, aren’t we discussing a very small group of people using this to get “worked up about?”

Again, at what stage of the disease did they administer HCQ in their studies?
All of those I saw that have “failed” ( note the quotes ) DO NOT ATTEMPT to replicate the successful treatment protocols of those who have succeeded (e.g. Didier Raoult and Vladimir Zelenko ). They all apply HCQ when the patient already has advanced hypoxic pneumonia or is in a ventilator ( even then, some studies have actually shown reversal of the disease from a few patients ).

At that age, both the “regular” flu and Covid are more like 35% morbidity or higher.

Of course there is another option...The Dr Grouchy treatment of choice..wait a year or longer for a vaccine?
I understand that. I am pretty good at the maths.
The hysteria about HCQ around here is incredible.
But 80% of the “victims” are down for a day, if that.
About 5% need respiratory help.
Roughly, 1% die.
Of course we do not know how many are, or will be infected.
All of this without ANY medical intervention other than breathing assistance.
So, you guys are all about using this preventatively. I would suggest that the potential bad side effects against the entire population are more dangerous than the drug, taken that way.
I am not saying it doesn’t work. I am saying that for a disease that will hardly impact most healthy people...the level of excitement and faith put into this is disproportionate to its application.
The promotion/faith of this as a wonder drug to “throw open” the country is misplaced.
The real argument to open the country is the empty beds in the hospitals. Use that as the barometer, not reliance on a drug application that is not going to be done in clinical trials for months—and even then, most here will not believe it because they believe any conspiracy they hear.
If the trials come back good sell it over the counter and feed to to everyone with spoonfuls of zinc.
My point is not about efficacy; it is about getting the the “How do we open back up in the fastest, safest, and more efficient manner.” And right now, that has more to do with testing and tracking hot spots and capacity.

If it didn’t work, then why did India and Israel send it to us?
In some of the studies, they may not have included azithromax/doxycycline + zinc.
