That's because ISILevant gives them credit for much more territory (Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Cyprus, Turkey (Hatay Province), Israel, Jordan, and Palestine) than ISISyria.

Using the “L” in ISIL includes Israel, which pissed me off to no end. He knew what he was doing.

But there is a deeper level to it, too. It showed his sympathy with the enemy.
ISIS, we were told meant: Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. But the literal translation of their name was "Islamic State of Syria and the Levant". The Levant is a larger area that includes Israel, so by using the precise formulation that ISIS themselves used, rather than the common version, Obama was acknowledging their claim to Israel, too.
Not surprisingly the Leftist editors at WIkipedia have used the Obama-approved ISIL title for their article on the organization.
