Millennials Don’t Stand a Chance: They’re facing a second once-in-a-lifetime downturn at a crucial moment.
The Atlantic ^ | April 13, 2020 | Annie Lowrey

Hello, lost generation. The Millennials entered the workforce during the worst downturn since the Great Depression. Saddled with debt, unable to accumulate wealth, and stuck in low-benefit, dead-end jobs, they never gained the financial security that their parents, grandparents, or even older siblings enjoyed. They are now entering their peak earning years in the midst of an economic cataclysm more severe than the Great Recession, near guaranteeing that they will be the first generation in modern American history to end up poorer than their parents.

Yes. Cruel and heartless old people on here. Millennials will get their payback in a few years though. There is going to be a huge backlash against the elderly, social security, and medicare. I expect a huge euthanasia push as their voting block becomes the single largest one as more elderly die off.

Once in a lifetime??? Don't count on it. The deep state will revel in their new control policy for every sneeze and sniffle that follows. Call it The Raw New Deal ™

I don’t have a fat government pension and I’m financially prepared to pay quite well to have my “stinky butt” wiped.

They shoulda learned to code. Or to manufacture here in America. Or learned a useful trade. china produces engineers and India produces coders (albeit largely lacking in innovation or a lick of common sense).

Good luck with that PHD in gender fluidity.

Been hearing this all my life. It was said about every generation. I specifically remember it being said during the 90s.

I survived ‘78-’82, .com crash, 911, 2008 financial attack on the USA and now this.

Its about time Millennials discovered that life is not a free ride paid for by mom-dad.
Its way past time for them to grow up and take responsibility for their actions.

How old are you? Your comment has to be one of the most vacuous in a thread full of bitter, vacuous comments.

“Saddled with debt, unable to accumulate wealth, and stuck in low-benefit, dead-end jobs, they never gained the financial security that their parents, grandparents, or even older siblings enjoyed.”

And this is why Socialism is the only answer.

If only their parents and grandparents didn't keep voting for the cheap labor express, free traitors, and open borders assholes who flooded the country with H1-Bs, shipped our manufacturing overseas, and allowed all of our IP to be stolen by china, maybe they could have done those things.......

But hey, at least you got your social security, medicare, and whatever that $20T in national debt paid for. It's just them, their kids, and grandkids who will have to pay for it on whatever a job a degree in Transgender Lesbian Art History get.

If I may ask, where did you learn about equities, and the procedures of investing in them? Was this through schools or did you seek out the info on your own?
I would hope that most schools still offer some basic economic education, and not only as electives.

Here is my point.
You can work your ass off for minimum wage or you can do the same for a real job and career.
One model leaves you struggling for the rest of your life, the other makes you prosperous and successful.

I made the same decision in my late 20’s.
I chose to be prosperous and after much sacrifice, managed to achieve it.

Back in the 70s and 80s, listening to Louis Rukeyser an hour a week on tv was the best education ever in economics and investing.

I went to a live seminar he did and he spent most of the lecture ripping on Carter and his failed stagflation policies.

well you're probably right...older people's purpose on the earth is to speak of wisdom, common sense, respect...to be an example...

so sorely lacking in the "I gots mine!" generation....pitiful...

“huh?”

Some write the way Joe Biden speaks, don’t they? With some I am unsure what they intended to convey but with others I really cannot determine if they themselves knew what they meant to convey. The very worst on FR make Biden seem like Mark Twain.

You think wisdom was being “taught” by all those selfish and callous responses to this article?

Ha. I did not learn all of that in school. Mostly due to family and reading on my own.
