Ordinary working citizens aka taxpayers have been buying wic all along. T by e difference now is they might actually be getting something of use for their money.

“WIC serves 53 percent of all infants born in the United States.”

Wow! Those are the people the communist will be hurting more than anyone, all in an attempt to hurt the Trump economy. Once the communists knew Trump had scored big with that demographic, they set out to destroy them and blame Trump.

Hogwash - “WIC” is on a LOT of products and there’s no need to set all of these aside for those on it.

My daughter used “WIC” for a short period of time when it was needed and there was PLENTY of good selection so that she didn’t even have to switch brands.

If people follow this advice, then $millions will end up in the trash just like her menu selections for the school kids.

Even families, with LOTS of kids, do NOT need ten big jars of peanut butter, jam, cartons of TP & paper towels, multiple gallons of cooking oil, etc
________________________________________________
I have been prepping long enough that some of my 25-year emergency staples are nearing expiration. I’ve had to throw out about 4-5 tins that were showing rust or (one) actually rusted out.

There’s only 2 of us and we’re at the age where we eat less, so I won’t speak for those with growing kids who can wipe out 2 gallons of milk, loaves of bread and large jars of peanut butter & jelly in one meal. I remember those days.

Except for produce, I’m amazed at how long most items last and how far I can stretch them. And I’ve even learned to preserve fresh produce about 2x as long as I once did.

I was shopping one day, pre-virus, and ran into the daughter of a friend who had 5 kids (oldest was 14 at the time)and was pregnant at the time. She and her husband run a farm and he has a construction company with his many brothers (family of 8 kids). They raise their own beef, one brother runs hogs and they all have gardens and some have chickens/eggs. This mom bakes a lot. Her cart was overflowing, she was ahead of me, and the bill was over $250. She had separated out the WIC items.

Later, I ran into her mother. Mother was a teacher; Dad was a doctor; they ran beef and had a rental property portfolio.
Mom said:”Well, at least we’re getting _some_ of all the taxes we ever paid back.” They had 4 kids and have something close to 10 grands.

WRT to the article, I’ve seen the WIC shelves and it seems to me the items aren’t limited to economy brands, but to healthy foods. WIC only applies to those with kids under a certain age, IIRC, as well as pregnant women. Two years old? Something like that.

There’s really no shortage specific to WIC foods. You can buy any veggie, Jif or Smuckers, etc. Heck, those 1/2 gallon grape jelly bottles are cheap.

Lots of hard-working, religious conservatives are eligible for WIC. I can’t begrudge them. As the kids get older, the parents are paying more and more in all sorts of taxes while increasing the number of Christian conservatives. In one family of 9 kids, the second tranche of boys had a landscaping business for 4 years until the youngest of the 3 graduated high school. These kids paid taxes at the age of 14 and had three siblings still in elementary school.

AGREED 100%.

Nonetheless, my point about buying MANY carts full of things that you family cannot use in months & months is VALID. = One customer at our local HEB reportedly bought ALL of the TP, paper towels & “cleaned out” the store’s supply of pork chops. = I was told by a cashier, whom I know, that he had over 5 carts FULL of things that his family could NOT possibly use anytime soon.

Yours, TMN78247

Those not on WIC have not a clue what WIC products are.

So, good luck with that.

WIC is essentially a redundant add-on to SNAP (food stamps.)
The SNAP card can be used to purchase anything & all the junk food you like.
The WIC vouchers, OTOH, spell out specific foods, specific brands, and exact quantities of ostensibly “healthy” foods and specific types of baby formula allowed, for children & mothers too ignorant to know how to choose healthy food with SNAP.

The brands change from month to month, in order to give rival food producers an equal shot at the government cash. 25 oz Kellogg last month, 20 oz Post this month.

The vouchers designate quantity you’re allowed, based on family size.

I cashiered in a grocery for awhile. Ringing up WIC vouchers was a royal pain.
Invariably the customer would choose wrong brands or sizes, and it wouldn’t ring up.
Had to hold up the line while she went back to get the right items.
Plus, we kept the baby formula locked up bc it’s expensive & targetted by shoplifters, so I’d need to call a manager to get it.

9 out of 10 WIC customers also had a SNAP card for the rest of their groceries.

WIC’s main function, of course, is to provide thousands of cushy jobs & lucrative pensions to still another layer of government leeches.

Someone went to Michelle O and explained what WIC was first (like she would know) and said hey, can you help us out here?

They are officially approved foods that persons with EBT cards ( formerly known as food stamps) can buy.

Not true. WIC is a totally different program than Food Stamps.
