I haven't been out of my apartment since the first of March, March 4th to be exact...today I went out, I went to Wal Mart did some shopping for things that I needed, no TP; Kleenex; paper towels, hand soap the pump kind; vicks, Mentholatum, beans, rice, very little hamburger, chicken, pork roasts...
So I went to Smiths, same thing; I went to Harmon's the same thing; I went to the Dollar Store, did find some hand soap, the pump kind, two rolls of paper towels and 1 box of Kleenex...
So you know what I am going to do when this crap is over and done with...one room in my apartment is going to be floor to ceiling with everything I can't find now...my little freezer might just get a twin and full of meat and frozen veggies...
You will NOT see me in this situation again...if I should die before I use it up, then my daughter can have it...
This virus is a RESPORTORY virus, not a butt virus so why no toilet paper, why no paper towels??? People don't make kitchen towels anymore and have a washer and dryer???
I will end with this...I have never seen such stupid people in all my life...
Welcome to the club...you sound like me when I was on a Submarine that was extended. I found out what I should carry with me,
Diarrhea could be the first sign of the China Virus.

You're going to become a prepper! :) Good move. Don't be fooled too much by current shortages, though, and don't concentrate too much on frozen stuff.
As a 30+ year prepper I am a bit surprised by the TP (I am stocked for perhaps a month or two.) My best guess is that folks hoped to corner the market on a normal necessity, and I suspect they are going to get burned. How much can they buy over say six months? Do they think the suppliers will stop producing?
My biggest laugh early on was the empty luncheon meat pegs. How long is luncheon meat going to last? Freeze it and it can damage the meat in some cases. Lose electricity for a week or more and you may have a bio weapons facility in your house.
Study prepping and spend wisely. Good luck. :)
