China watchers who calculate off of data like vacated cell phone accounts or the level of electricity use think that Wuxan has suffered over 40,000 deaths. A very long way from “millions”, but it’s high enough.

If you died early because you had CCP-19, you died from CCP-19. Whether it was 20 years, 10 years, 1 week or 1 minute.
The deaths that would have happened eventually were years off and in many cases, decades. If they die because CCP-19 accelerated their deaths or if they die because someone with CCP-19 took up that ICU bed they needed, it’s still caused by CCP-19.
You are not the arbiter of whose life matters.
The drop in deaths from other causes due to mitigation efforts are a priceless bonus, but are not statistically significant compared to the drop in deaths from CCP-19 due to mitigation efforts - which dwarfs the prior number. We only need look at Italy to see that’s true.
Around 7,000 Americans die every day from all causes. 1,000 died today from CCP-19. A 14% increase in deaths IS statistically significant.
