The scene looked a little like a CIA operation or a questionable business transaction, but it was really nothing more than a way to get yarn and fabric into the hands of volunteers trying to do some good.
Ordinary grocery bags, brimming with the goods — lined up in an alley, no less — for pickup by people who would promptly exit their vehicles, snatch the bags and then drive off.
“It reminds me of when we started this thing 20 years ago,” said Lois Moore, founder of From the Heart, a volunteer organization that creates and distributes hand-stitched items to people who are sick or otherwise in need. Now, there are almost 1,800 members; then, there were just a few of her friends.
“I’d pull up to a Starbucks and open the trunk of the car and they would come from everywhere to get their yarn. People in Starbucks wondered what was going on. They’d ask me, ‘What are you selling out there?’” she said with a laugh.
Now, though, the reason for the curious scene is COVID-19.
Over the years, From the Heart volunteers have made all sorts of things: hats and blankets for cancer patients; baby blankets; hats, sweaters and booties for premature babies and newborns; teddy bears wearing hand-stitched outfits and soft hand-created toys for pediatric emergency rooms; wheelchair blankets and totes for veterans and others in hospital and hospice; and socks, scarves, mittens and even sleeping bags for the homeless.

Any knitters here? Years back I had a pattern for an afghan that was reversible. It was knitted front and back at the same time and actually was 2 ply. It was extremely difficult because you had to follow instructions for every stitch. I have searched the net and no luck. Would love to have that pattern again.
Etsy’s has a very large selection of patterns.
I am in a few facebook groups and people there find even more places with patterns.
Designers also moved over to lovecrafts.com
What I miss about ravelry is the individual notebooks.
Every user had a section with all of their work in it.
So I could search “summer breezes pullover” and see how everyone’s turned out and what nites they may have on it.
Does love crafts or anyone else have that?

I have seen that. The particular pattern I would like to find had a much more complex pattern. It looked like paper dolls holding hands around the border and had a geometric pattern in the center. I believe it was in a ladies magazine. I made two and raffled them for charity and one I recall went for $450.00. My regular afghans never went for more than a hundred.
Please add me to the list. I sew, since I was a child. Current project is alterations for my daughter’s wedding dress. Wedding is set for 5/23. Plans A seems unlikely, so she’s working on Plan B.

One of my biggest problems is keeping up with patterns that have either been very successful & I want to repeat them or something I’ve seen and eventually want to make. Also, I tend to keep notes on patterns .... changes I’ve made or how I’ve gotten through a particularly difficult section ... even to the extent of having to diagram it. I’ve found a system to keep up with everything using an address book program that allows many databases so I have one for patterns & one for projects & even cross reference them. It’s been a pattern/project “life saver” for me.
I hope you can find this afghan pattern - sounds gorgeous - being in a magazine rather than online is a definite challenge!

So could I be a “ designer” and post all I have made too I wonder? I will try.

I literally had to diagram this pattern row by row. I lost patterns in a move we made. I am finally retired and have time to crochet and knit again. I probably should stick with simpler things though. The eyes and fingers ain’t what they used to be.
Yes! I just looked. Since I have only purchased from them, I have never looked at the options in my profile, but you can post your projects!
