Bloody Brits. They never DID learn how to drive on the correct side of the road.
I was looking for the TARDIS. ;)
I saw the groups of men with their horsed up coaches off to the side. Maybe that was a form of taxi service back then.
It reminded me somewhat of today’s financial district in San Francisco. People dressed in a similar, costly fashion.
Still, mostly men going to and fro. At that time, the Little Woman was mostly still at home washing clothes for a few Shillings. Or supervising the Irish Maids.
I didn’t see any Yobs harassing or begging from people.
Maybe that happened more nearer to Piccadilly Square.
I didn’t see any outside restaurants either. Perhaps that was not the style just yet.
Look at all the old Victorian buildings. Whatever was not ruined by WW2 bombings ten years later, may still be standing today. Europeans tend to keep their old buildings around longer than we do.
Incidentally, Conestoga wagon is why we call cigars stogies.
Im always amazed at how well dressed people were. I was recently looking at photos from my fathers public high school in 1943-44. The kids all looked like they stepped out of a band-box, even though I know they were blue-collar, working-class kids. Dad always said the principal was a stickler for the dress code.
My mom was born in 32 and I think my dad in 34, I think. Mom passed away several decades ago and Dad likes to joke about his age, so that’s not a sure age. LOL
At any rate, I was marveling about the way the folks looked as they went about their way.
Even the lower working class seemed to be better dressed than most today.
The cars are wonderful to look at in these clips.
How They Dug the Victoria Line
I enjoy watching it. At Tottenham, they had to freeze 500 cube yards of ground so they could dig through it.
First thing I noticed. No fat people. There is a similar video of NYC. No fat people. Eerybody walked and no fast food.
The English language has two words that mean the opposite of "right".
I think the film got put in the projector inside out.
Amazing to think that London’s traffic was worse in April 1930 than in April 2020!
I haven’t watched the video yet, but I figured no fat people. We hadn’t screwed up our nation or theirs yet.
Is there a sped up version with “yakkity sax” playing?
:)
