QUEENS Brian Zupanick, who marked his 39th birthday alone Sunday, couldnt believe his ears when a doctor called him from Mount Sinai Hospital in Manhattan this weekend.
The doctor had some positive news about his long-time partner, John Giarratano, whod been placed on a ventilator for 13 days, after COVID-19 virus invaded Giarratanos lungs.
Hes off the ventilator, Brian Zupanick told PIX11 with jubilation, as we FaceTimed him to discuss his good piece of news. I couldnt ask for a better present, honestly.
Giarratanoa 42-year-old, freelance TV producerwas the first COVID-19 patient we profiled early last weekend.
His partner, Brian, was desperate to get him the best treatment available.
Giarratano had driven himself to the Mount Sinai affiliate in Oceanside, Long Island on Friday, March 13, a week after he first developed a fever.
He had no underlying medical conditions, yet by very early Sunday, March 15, he was being intubated and placed on a ventilator to breathe.
Giarratanos COVID-19 test results were very delayed, but the president of Mt. Sinai and an infectious disease doctor were able to get Giarratano on the experimental treatment, Remdesivirbefore it became almost impossible to access, because of overwhelming demand.
After the initial treatments with Remdesivir, Giarratano was stable enough for transfer to the flagship Mt. Sinai Hospital in Manhattan, where his partner told us Giarratano received another experimental drug, Hydroxychloroquine.
Something worked obviously, because he really wasnt doing well, Zupanick said.
In the last four days, he started moving in a positive direction, Zupanick said. It was absolutely a miracle. I feel as though it was divine intervention from the very beginning.
I believe in God, and I believe God has answered my prayers. I really, truly do, Zupanick told PIX11. Because it was bad.
Zupanick is profusely thanking the doctors at both Mt. Sinai hospitals for taking such good care of his partner.
Theyre actually quite happy and surprised with how well hes done, Zupanick said. I want to see him!
Gay hygiene is the reason why they are 1000x more likely to die from a virus than a straight person. #inconvenientfact
‘Social Distancing’ may become a way of life for quite a while.
Trump is often described as a ‘germophobe’. I don’t know that I’ve really believed that; but if so, he may have been ahead of his time.
They probably shoved dozens of touching stories of straight couples aside to get to the gay couple.
Its working! Every single success story is a blessing
Wheres the before picture?
It sucks. When my daughter was in the hospital for months (shes okay now) ...every call I got from a doctor or hospital would send me into a mini-panic.
Doesnt bother me at all. Whatever gets the word out.
I don't agree with the way they play the public and spin the story.
This is the politically correct pandemic. The fact that this young patient is gay is relevant. To understand just who is susceptible to develop serious disease or die from this virus requires a dispassionate evaluation of the data. It is necessary to tabulate the race, age, underlying medical conditions, habits, medications used and vaccination history of those who do or don’t become infected, do or don’t become seriously ill, do or don’t die. The CDC and WHO have the data but for reasons best known by them have not made it public.
If that doesn’t qualify as an underlying condition, I don’t know what does.
See if you can get this video to play; it just buffers for me...
“X-ray images and CT scans of coronavirus patients reveal how their lungs are being ravaged by the virus and filled with a sticky mucus that prevents them from inhaling because there is no space for air.
Medical professionals around the world, from front-line staff to research scientists, are beginning to develop a solid understanding of how the novel coronavirus spreads and affects the body.”
Ann’s take on this angle...
The only way to really know if that stuff works is if the left starts banning it, and so far two Governors are trying so to me, it looks like it is working. The left wants this pandemic to go on as long as it possibly can all the way to the election and beyond if Trump wins, so the last thing they want is a cure.
I lifted the pic from this article; no video:

Thank you for being such a trouble making political inconsiderate hateful jerk telling the truth....
After 22 years here, Ive been warned to tow the pc line or else...
Oh wow she’s still around? Forgot all about her. I remember she got a death threat from a Jihadi and then gave the Jihadi directions to her house so she could blow his brains out LOL
I remembered that fungus infection because I had a devil of a time getting the doctor to treat me. He obviously gave me some broad spectrum antibiotic that killed it in spite of not believing my odd symptoms.
The point is that scaring can heal just as the effects of smoking can heal over time.
After 10 yearsAny scaring will in a few months be next to nothing. I'm not a doctor but I can read. After 10 years, a persons chances of developing lung cancer and dying from it are roughly cut in half compared with someone who continues to smoke. The likelihood of developing mouth, throat, or pancreatic cancer has significantly reduced.
After 15 years
After 15 years of having quit smoking, the likelihood of developing coronary heart disease is the equivalent of a non-smoker. Similarly, the risk of developing pancreatic cancer has reduced to the same level as a non-smoker.
