I keep hearing things like: “The FDA is also allowing seriously ill patients to be treated with convalescent plasma therapy”
The FDA has no authority over what doctors prescribe for treatment - the only have authority over what Pharma and device companies can claim and market for their products.
Throughout my 20 years in devices doctors have ALWAYS used devices and treatments that are off label. Our marketing guys want to claim those treatments so they can make a sale using it, but they aren’t allowed because the company doesn’t invest in the off-label use due to the expense of the clinical trials vs the likely payback. Sometimes a university or institute will do the investment instead and then ask for a licensing fee for the study results, but the doctors can prescribe as they see fit to treat.
The doctors will face potential liability, but the FDA has no authority over doctors that resides with the hospital oversight bodies and State licensing health boards.
I personally have no clue and admit it. Always happy to learn, though.
futures seem to be turning positive as midnight approaches.
Then why are these happening
a) FDA dragging feet on the meds
b) the stonewalling & forbidding the meds’ use, by those 2 state governors?
