I’m not defending this company. I think they would argue that your disclosure was made voluntarily to receive additional money.

I agree with your belief this whole story is bull.

I guess the question involves what exactly the “additional money” is. If the business is furloughing staff temporarily but paying them anyway, then I guess they can do this however they want. In fact, it might even make sense for them to be smart about it and really just give their staff what they need so they can carry more employees for a longer period of time.
