Those can only be used a short time per person and do not offer automatic unattended usage. You literally have to have at least a 1:1 staff:patient ratio to use them, and that only for a short time.

Amazing what $2.00 will buy in the medical world. In the aviation price bloated marketplace it would fetch 20.00.
If certified to FAA specs then it would be a bargain at 2000.

That ventilator just won't do.
You need the new CHEVY 5000 Ventilator!!
500 HP
0 to 20,000 breaths in 0.2 seconds.
Collision Detection.
100 million breath drive train warranty.
Honorary membership in the redneck army.
Even one of the older models would do.
Or a lower profile Executive model.

This is an ambubag not a ventilator. It requires someone to continuously pump it. A ventilator is an electronic system that automatically pumps air into the lungs and extracts the exhalation. Don’t compare apples to Cadillacs and quote the price of the apple.

Are you going to be able to keep that up for 11 - 21 days - 24 hours a day? How do you remove the CO2 OUT of the lungs with that? Hmmmm?
You know - one thing this whole event has shown is that there are some pretty stupid people hanging out on this site and voting (R). Pretty freaking scary-almost as scary as those that vote straight party (L).

I wonder how many of the people they are putting on these that could be just as easily treated with a Nebulizer as only people that normally compromised before they even contracted the disease need ventilators normally.
I am also reading that this virus sometimes triggers asthma symptoms. Maybe they are jumping to the ventilators out of caution but the Nebulizer would normally be indicated for other similar flu cases.

A ventilator is a very simple device.
An automated ventilator is only moderately complex...it needs great instrumentation though and several fail-safe systems to make it safe.
The single greatest cost of a ventilator is $$$ to cover the legal liability.
We need healthcare tort reform!
To sue and receive monetary damages beyond a set amount a jury should have to be unanimous instead of the way civil litigation is set up currently...this could halve the cost of many medical devices.
